You’ve started your own Facebook Page and your business is now live online. Congrats! 🥳 Now I need you to take a look at your page and answer this: How are your visuals looking? 🔍 At first glance, is it easily recognizable and memorable? Or is it one of those half-baked brands that are easily forgettable and just too common?
If you answer with 🤷🏻♀️ “it’s kinda okay” or with “not doing well” then you’ve come to the right place. 💁🏻♀️
Let me share with you the importance and benefits of design for any brand to stand-out and be memorably stunning.
By the way, you can learn and apply these even if you’re a non-designer. Well, I was once a non-designer too. I graduated from nursing school by 2010 and became a registered nurse, and so it’s very safe to say that I am certainly a non-designer, just like you. And yet, here I am, designing and creating beautiful graphics for businesses to increase their brand identity since 2016.
All you need is the willingness and extra effort to put in the work hours to learn and apply good design for your brand. If I can do it, trust me, you can do it too!
Ready your notebook 📒 and pen 🖊, since there will be a worksheet for you to take action with at the end of this article. 😉 Let’s get started!
What are the benefits of design to your business?
Design makes anything more attractive and improves visuals and functions. Just look at Apple 🖥, Starbucks ☕️, IKEA 🪑, and even your local burger shop 🍔🍟 (mmmhhh burgers~), they all have unique designs — they have solid brands. And that can be made possible for your business, too.
So, let’s answer, what are the benefits of design? 💭
Firstly, good design gives your business a proper identity called a brand. Your brand then becomes recognizable and more likable to your target audience. Inversely, if you have poor design or if you do not have any design plan whatsoever, then you’ll be forgotten by your audience and worst come to worst, they may even feel repelled with your visuals.
Your business visuals improve and in turn make you more attractive to your target audience. As Peep Laja wrote,
“For first impressions, visual appeal even beats usability… People make snap judgments. It takes only 1/10th of a second to form a first impression about a person. Websites [and business brands] are no different.”
Whether you like it or not, people will judge your business with just the visuals that you have, so why not use a design plan to capture them?
Your business will now have a structured direction for the overall visuals. A Brand Handbook serves this exact purpose. 📔 You can now spend less time figuring out what colors and images to use for your graphics since you’ll now have a step-by-step manual for your designs. You can just create templates out of your design plan and make things streamlined just like how I use Canva templates.
Lastly, your brand will then stand out among the rest of your competitors. 💡 You’ll be easily recognized, remembered, and trusted. Making your target audience choose you among others. Wouldn’t you want that for your business?
